I'd buy those Uncanny X-Men issues Woody mentioned in an OHC, but I wouldn't pay to have them collected together with a bunch of X-Factor and post-Claremont New Mutants issues that I have zero-interest in. I'm all for completing the Claremont X-Men in a quality hardcover collection.

Well, it's just that, as I mentioned, we have to work around the volumes already published. Would I have done it this way if I could do it from scratch? No. I would have had different breakpoints and, for example, would have chose not to publish Fall of Mutants as a volume grouping the three then-X-teams (as each story is completely independant, the link is only thematic). It's easy for me to say that now, because I can view it from a more global perspective, whereas Marvel was probably thinking one volume at the time, releasing several iconic 80s stories they thought the readers would enjoy re-reading in big thick high-quality HCs.

But we've reach a point where it's time to "plug the holes". I still think the volumes I proposed are the best way to both plug the gaps in the Uncanny X-Men HCs from Mutant Massacre on and set up an "easy" way to complete the two other main X-books of that time, namely X-Factor and New Mutants (I am aware Wolverine and Excalibur were out there at that time as well, but they rarely - if ever - crossovered with the other X-books at that time, so their collecting is much less problematic).

I won't deny I'm preaching for my choir. I'd love to see all of the "Claremont Era" X-books reprinted. Most of all, I'd love a couple of New Mutants by Chris Claremont omniboo. But I'd buy the X-Factor I suggested too, as well as a volume reprinting Excalibur #1-34 + specials.

Curious how things work. Ten years ago, we wouldn't have dream having such editions, now we're practically demanding it gets completed. I guess in a way it's a compliment to Marvel, no matter how annoying us fans can get.

Peace,
