Well, it might be a strange "under the influence" forum request but if we see what's been already published:

09-11 X-Men Mutant Massacre
33-40 X-Men Inferno OHC
60-62 X-Tinction Agenda OHC
63-70 X-Men by Claremont/Lee Omnibus

from X-Factor #01 to Peter David's era would bé something like:

Avengers #263; Fantastic Four #286; and Classic X-Men #8 and #43 (Phoenix Rising)
X-Factor #1-8, 12-32, 41-59

This is roughly over 1100 pages.
I'm not an expert in mappings but, with the current thin paper, all these plus the 6 annuals could fit in just one single Omnibus?

Except some of us don't like collections that "jump around". Incidentally, X-Factor #19-26 are in the Fall of Mutants OHC.
I know this thread has degenerated as a joke, mostly, but since you sound serious about that, I'll say (again) what I think would be best for the X-line of "Classics" OHCs:

Mutant Massacre Aftermath/Prelude to Fall of Mutants:
- Uncanny #215-219, Annual #10-11
- X-Factor #12-18, Annual #2
- Thor #377-378
- New Mutants Annual #2
- X-Men vs. FF #1-4
- X-Men vs. Avengers #1-4

Fall of Mutants Aftermath/Prelude to Inferno:
- Uncanny #228-234 (-238?), (maybe Annual #12 Evo War)
- MCP #10-17 "God's Country" - Colossus
- New Mutants #62-70, (maybe Annual #4 Evo War)
- X-Factor #27-32, (maybe Annual #3 Evo War)
- MCP #17-24 "The Retribution Affair" - Cyclops

I personally would be in favor of reprinting the Genosha issues (Uncanny #235-238) to make both this OHC and the X-Tinction OHC stand on their own. The Evolutionary War annuals could or couldn't be reprinted, I forgot how much they stand on their own and how important they are (they are reprinted in the Evolutionary War OHC anyhow).

Those two OHCs would give us, grouped with Mutant Massacre, Fall of Mutants and Inferno, all of X-Factor from #9 to 40 and New Mutants from #55 to #73.

For X-Factor, we would then need:

X-Factor - Beginnings:
- Avengers #263
- Fantastic Four #286
- X-Factor #1-8, Annual #1
- Iron Man Annual #8
- Amazing Spider-Man #282

X-Factor (untitled):
- X-Factor #41-59, Annual #4
- Prisoner of Love
- MCP #85-92 "Just Friends" - Beast

We would also need a couple of New Mutants volumes covering Claremont's run (the GN, #1-54, annuals #1-3, Special Edition and a few crossovers/tie-ins) and a volume covering #75-94 (up to X-Tinction).

Obviously, this would not be to everyone's taste. You suggested one OHC, and there I go and tell you it should be four... I completely understand if you end up disagreeing with my views. I still think it's the best way to collect the remaining issues of the X-franchise of the 80s in hardcovers, given whatever OHCs we currently already have.

Wow, look at that... I got carried away.

Thanks for reading (and not making fun).

Peace,

Woody
