One other note:  I went back to Mike's Amazing World to check on when in 1956 Batwoman came along.  I was surprised to find that she arrived two months before the Flash appeared in Showcase #4.  That means that even though the Silver Age is generally counted as having started with Schwartz's revival of the Flash, Schiff had originated two DC Silver Age heroes --Batwoman and Jonn Jonzz--before him.

I won't venture into that debate but I still know a number of collectors that believe Detective Comics #225 is the first silver-age comic and not Showcase #4. Growing up in the 1980's I still remember when Showcase wasn't considered the clear choice.

It's interesting that the demand for those old Bat-woman back-issues (check out the recent prices for Detective comics #233) are being fueled by the demand for her replacement in the series, Batgirl. A lot of collectors understand that Batgirl is just a revamp of Bat-woman anyway although they remained two separate characters.
