I couldn't possibly disagree with you more.

First of all, I'm no expert on 1950's comics, but wasn't the standard for all comics 8-12 pages? It wasn't only Atlas that was doing that. Look At te EC reprints for example.

Secondly, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!! the covers! I think the cover art is one of the BEST things about the Timely revival comics.

I think the reason for their failure was much more basic. The market had changed. Timely's strength in the 1940's was their close association with the war, all their superheroes were fighting Hitler and Tojo. In the 50's, that strength became a weakness.
