I will also courageously step forward on this public forum and say how much I enjoyed the Atlas Heroes volume.

As will I. It's very possibly my overall favorite Masterwork yet produced! Also, I think their cover artwork during this time period was some of the finest produced by any company EVER!

Also, I NEVER read an Archive or a Masterwork cover-to-cover. These books were published on a monthly schedule. They were never meant to be read that many in a sitting. Under those conditions the formulas do become tiresome - no question. (I also refuse to watch more than a single episode of any old movie serial in a siting for the same reason.)

I do the exact opposite. I try to wait until I have a run of a particular title and then I read the entire run, hopefully to be able to watch the title (as well as the writers and artists) develop and grow.

However, with anthology titles such as were the norm at EC, "development", per se, isn't possible. With different characters in every story, there is no growth; only repetition.

Granted, their artwork was of consistantly high quality but the writing was repetitive and unchanging. For that reason, these books are best read in smaller doses.
