No. The 50s were really the most diverse decade, arguably the healthiest decade, for comic books period. Perhaps the leading publisher in the 1950s was Dell. The most popular titles included WDC&S and Donald Duck. Personally, I've always thought of it as the golden age for humour books, especially funny animal.

Look at the breakdown on DC's line up in December 1953, at the time of the Timely revival:
