Perhaps therein lies the problem.

Ask around the board: what are people's favorite eras?

- The Silver Age, where there were ten to thirteen monthly books on average, all under the tight editorial rein of Stan Lee?

- The Bronze Age (1971-1978), where there were perhaps twenty monthly ongoing titles that weren't reprint titles?

- The Shooter Age, where monthly output skyrocketed and multi-title crossovers were conceived?

- The post-Shooter Age, where monthly output continued to skyrocket, and where mutli-title crossovers became the order of the day?

Seems to me that if the line is kept lean and manageable, the quality overall is higher. When they push out product just to keep the shelves full, well -- this stuff doesn't have a best-before date, ya know...
