Starting with Metal Men #1, the science feature was reduced to 1 page, and Andru/Esposito began personifying some of the metals as robots similar to the Metal Men (i.e. Copper and Silver in the final panel below), foreshadowing the portrayal of the evil metals in the next issue's tale:



The letter column in that issue kicked off with a unique letter not only was she an appreciative mom, she was a chemist to boot!:




The facts and fancies in issue #2 would introduce what would become another staple of the feature having the subjects (in this case, atoms) speak directly to the reader:
