"Prince Peril's Power Play" is one of the unsung gems of this volume. It's overshadowed by the first double-GL epic, and by the dramatic 2-parter that immediately follows it, but this story holds it own. A guest star, an improbable romance, 2 Gil Kane bare-knuckled slugfests (the second one demolishing a movie set a la Blazing Saddles!), a cataclysmic finale... And at the center of it all - Doiby Dickles, humorously written with great affection by author John Broome.

In #48's LC, readers gave this story the equivalent of a standing ovation, some choosing to be succinct, like Irene Vartanoff, others eloquent, like "Our Favorite Guy".

In the midst of the applause, a shadow falls across the page... Julie's final comment ominously tells of future developments that would begin to bring the curtain down on DC's Silver Age. But alas, that's a tale for another day and another volume...
