drumore has inspired me to let this thread serve as a tribute to the life and art of Mr. Oksner, especially as much of his best work may not be well known.

I'm going to post pieces of his work that I particularly admire, and anyone else is welcome to do the same.

One of Bob's first DC gigs was a collaboration with another talented gentleman, Sheldon Mayer, called Leave it to Binky, that debuted in 1948 (not to be confused with the inferior Archie clone that came out in the late '60s). This joint venture would serve Bob well later on - his humor work always seemed to be able to squeeze the most hilarious situations out of everyday life, much like Shelly's classic strips such as Scribbly. Here's a sample from the first issue:






Another early partner was the prolific Robert Kanigher who Oksner teamed up with in 1948 to create a back-up strip in Sensation Comics entitled Lady Danger. Bob showed that he could do more than just humor - here's a sample from the first story in #84:






Early on in his career, Bob displayed uncanny ability in rendering beautiful girls and celebrity caricatures. Another new DC title called Miss Beverly Hills of Hollywood (1949-50) gave him ample opportunity to display both of these talents:
