I'm among the legion of fans who returned to comics via Busiek and Perez's run. I loved it, but don't necessarily think it's "great comics". Perez's art is wonderful (as is Alan Davis' later) but the writing was so oriented toward people like me (Avengers lovers from the Shooter/Englehart/Marvel Triple Action days) that I can easily see the point of those who criticize it.

It's not unlike the new Justice League book by Meltzer/Benes. I have no real connection to the team, especially the era he adores, and thus the book is a bit alien to me, and overly retro.

I like comics that bring me back to my younger days of reading comics, but I'm real glad that's not all I look for in them. I think Ultimates is great.
