The Doom Patrol was arguably one of DC's most unique books during that particular time period since it's the closest thing they had to a Marvel book.  You basically had a team of down-on-their-luck heroes and stories that developed a real continuity, including a climax that was among the most surprising and memorable events of the Silver Age.  Bruno Premiani also had a unique style that wasn't quite like the typical DC book.  No surprise that Marvel picked up Arnold Drake, although he ironically wasn't able to match his success there.  The completion of the original Doom Patrol is one the Archives high watermarks, imo.
