I guess this is a case where no improved source materials were located?


In this instance, there'd be nothing to "locate" -- you either spend the money to have the necessary work redone, or you don't!

I will say, though, that that probably isn't a good comparison -- that cover is probably mostly redrawn, and the quality of the line you'll find on a cover, on coated stock, is inevitably going to be sharper than the quality of the line on newsprint, where the ink tends to spread.
