The quality of the package is very good. Max Allan Collins has some good insight here. The strips are reproduced well, which may be part of the strip;s problem.

The art just doesn't work for me. When you compare it to the Phantom or Steve Canyon, it comes off looking scratchy and odd. Spillane picked a friend for art, but I think he should have looked for someone else.

The same goes for Joe Gill on scripts. I know Gill as the Charlton writer who rapid fire typed out one script after another like some people expel farts from their system. Unfortunately many of Gill's scripts smelled just as badly as those farts I mentioned.\

Spillane eventaully let Gill go, and I am looking forward to his scripting. Nonetheless, the art just doesn't look good to my eye.

But, it is nicely packaged though.
