I almost bought a Secret Wars Omnibus the other day because I saw a cheap one, but then I looked at some of those issues and talked myself out of it. I remembered passing on all but the first issue as a kid because I thought the art wasn't particularly great. I read the whole hing last year and decided the story was pretty lame, too.

I think I hate crossovers because I feel they ruin the writer's ability to write their own stories. And the crossovers themselves seem like mad grabs for cash with generally poor writing and art due to their being rushed out. This is made worse nowadays by the dozens of writers and artists they use to rush these things out every couple of months.

That being said, Secret Wars is probably my favorite event because it barely interferred with the ongoing stories of the day. I think it might have got a one page mention within Uncanny X-Men that they were leaving. And Claremont was able to manage the consequences to Kitty/Peter's relationship in an interesting way that made me care about the characters.
