My Recent Posts
SCALPED had to end because it had a finite storyline (Dash vs. Lincoln), although the aperture was wide enough that a lot of good sidecar stories were told along the way.
It is a great series, indeed.
Two over-riding characteristics stick out for me:
- RM Guerra's gritty noire art
- Jason Aaron's 'characters circling the drain' metaphor -- his people felt like they were trapped/doomed, but they kept persevering throughout the tangled trail they followed
... and if Lincoln Red Crow was a villain, then Aaron made him understandable and likeable (to a degree), while Guerra drew him with both a dominant intimidating presence, and then slumped over with the weight of the world on his shoulders ...
