The Avengers #29, June 1966 [published 12 Apr 66]

We’re entering a period in which Goliath would dominate the covers; but that’s okay with me.

“This Power Unleashed” - Script: Stan Lee; Art: Don Heck; Inking: Frank Giacoia; Lettering: Sam Rosen

Hawkeye mentions Natasha (how on-topic) when a few issues ago he was mooning over the Scarlet Witch.

Goliath’s size problem is a very Marvel thing to do: “Super-Heroes with Super-Problems” indeed.

The Black Widow is in her original costume, which is okay with me, but I wish, when it was first introduced, it had been colored more like a mirror of Hawkeye’s.

Pop Culture reference: Soupy Sales, who I believe I mentioned before.

Page 6, panel 3: Cap is apparently now in frequent conversation with S.H.I.E.L.D.

This month’s villains did a good job of separating the Avengers and defeating them individually.

Page 17: The Wasp appears in the most recent version of her original costume. It is too soon for any “modern” variations.

Page 18, panel 7: look at the position of the characters’ feet. Aren’t they just about occupying the same space.

By story’s end Hawkeye is eating a little humble pie. Let’s hope he grows up.

In the lettercol a fan defines Wanda’s power as altering probability, which I think, through time, has become the standard definition of her ability.

Anarchy and Chaos are the natural state of the human race. Civilization is unnatural. It is a whim of circumstance. And Chaos must always ultimately triumph.
