“Just a Guy Named Joe” - Script: Stan Lee; Plot & Art: STV DTKO; Lettering: Art Simek

It seems like the average Ditko character just has a lot of hard luck.

You know, I kinda like this costume too.

My opinion of Ned Leeds hasn’t improved.

I think Ditko is drawing Peter looking a little more mature, with a little less baby fat.

Something Marvel had not done was to give an antagonist a sympathetic origin; that changes here.

Page 7, panel 4: see, the Hulk isn’t the only one who get stronger as he gets angrier.

This is a different kind of tale: kind of fanciful, kind of whimsical.

This is our second issue for seeing the mysterious Mr. Osborn in action, as he puts a price on Spider-Man’s head (and the rest of him too).

Page 10: I think what most people say about the protesters is true. Steve wanted to criticize them, and Stan turned it into a joke. Meanwhile, Pete has peaked Gwen’s curiosity.

Steve’s inking does seem a little bit rushed in this one.

I think this is the 3rd issue “this year” with an extended sound-effects scene.

This is the second appearance of Mary Jane Watson – but not her face.

In the lettercol we learn that the University of California now hosts the Royal Order of Spider-Men.

Anarchy and Chaos are the natural state of the human race. Civilization is unnatural. It is a whim of circumstance. And Chaos must always ultimately triumph.
