The X-Men #21, June 1966 [published 5 Apr 66]

“From Whence Comes Dominus?” - Script: Roy Thomas; Art: Werner Roth; Inking: Dick Ayers; Lettering: Art Simek

Page 1: Jean just does not look that feminine, and she has men’s shoulders.

Porter Mack and his Dude Ranch cronies are a joke (and I mean that in a bad way).

Page 4: I’m sure of it now. Werner Roth draws Jean with men’s shoulders. What the heck is this, I thought he had drawn romance books. Why the heck is he doing this?

Page 5: Again someone with a gun talks about winging someone. This time I’m sure it’s the Comics Code dictating the story-telling. And in the last panel: I’m sure the block of ice would give Mr. Mack a bad case of frostbite.

Page 7: the robot design is very bland.

Page 10: robots with toes are just a bit too much!

Page 16: It’s kind of a nice ploy; Professor X realizing how to defeat Dominis but the X-Men not believing him.

Roy Thomas’ script is serviceable. It moves the story along, but I’ve found nothing that puts me in awe. And actually, having the robots destroyed by Dominus was a bit of clever writing.

Anarchy and Chaos are the natural state of the human race. Civilization is unnatural. It is a whim of circumstance. And Chaos must always ultimately triumph.
