Is it common to have color deterioration with all sorts of collected editions?

Any change in color quality in the bookblock is likely due to discoloration of the paper -- the ink is unlikely to fade or to lose any of it's color quality unless it's exposed to light for long periods of time (and that's unlikely to happen, even with repeated reading).

It's very unlikely but sometimes it happens. I know a certain line of very cheap tpbs from a certain company that has the problem of ink fading
.
