My Recent Posts
9 years ago Barnes and Noble published their own trade paperback MMW editions and I miss them, I think they were really good.
Last week I was cleaning and dusting my book shelves and at the same time checking my MMWs and noticed some things:
1. The first MMWs editions with different colors with the Comicraft cover dust jacket from before 2000 had very bad linework printing, everything has a lot of pixelation
For instance X-Men volume 3, some of the covers look very awful like the graphics of 1980s Atari videogames (remember those?) I didn't remember how bad it looked, probably back then because of the novelty I didn't notice those details but now it really annoys me to the point I'm considering to replace them by softies.
2. Most of my MMW HC are the 2000s remasterworks, the pixelation and reproduction of the linework have been fixed in the recent years, but I had some problems with Captain America 1, Spider-Man 2 and FF 2 and 3. The thinner very sleek glossy paper gets all glued up together. The last months were very hot here and the pages were all stuck. But if it gets cold or they receive extended periods of air conditioning then the pages get all wrinkled. Very slowly and carefully had to check each book separate each page one by one allowing them to get some air.
3. Then I have the sofcovers. I decided to buy HC only for those essential volumes in my colletion or volumes I couldn't wait to be released in sofcover. The softies allow me to read most of the MMW I wouldn't bother to buy in HC. Still, a couple of years ago they had some problems too with the paper they used in some volumes (e.g Thor 2, Avengers 3 and DD 2) awful paper, and I noticed last week that those volumes in just 2 years have deteriorated somewhat, mainly Thor 2, the level of ''whiteness'' has diminished, a bummer. Hope they don't get yellowed too soon.
4. I purchased some years ago the Barnes and Noble Editions, the first UXM volumes I got them that way, and I noticed they are the ones that look the best today. They had decent reproduction level, the colors were just perfect and the paper they used was just right, not too thin nor too thick, glossy but not too much. And they are 100% white as if I bought them yesterday (even smell like new books), they don't look a day older. Wish I had bought more of them.
