And I don't think sales is a very good indicator at this point. I think we'd need at least a couple years of sales data to determine if the sales bump is more than the excitement from something new.

Either way they still generated a sales bump that lasted more than just a few months.  A sales bump that was dramatic for a while.  And I've got to think it's a very safe assumption that the sales levels we've seen since the relaunch are quite a bit higher than the sales we'd have seen if they'd decided to not relaunch/reboot the DCU after Flashpoint.

That said, if the sales levels in 2 years are significantly lower than they were pre-Flashpoint, then it was probably a failure.  If they're just the same, that's probably still a win IMO, since the expectation prior to the relaunch would have been that DC's sales (and comics sales in general) would have continued to decline.  Being able to stop the decline for a couple of years and generate a significant short term sales windfall is a pretty neat trick.

All true but we can't know for certain what this will do for DC over the next few years(or more).  If their goal was just a great sales bump for a year then, yes, it was a great success.  However, I suspect their plan was a little further reaching then that.  We won't know if this has stopped the decline for more then a couple years and we don't know if this will bring in larger sales or a bigger readership more long term...yet.  So far so good though.
