I don't generally feel like it's been that big a success, though, too many titles (did they HAVE to do '52,' honestly?) and I've felt zero interest for most of the mainstream superhero stuff. I was willing to give it a shot, but if I'm only buying 4-5 books out of 52, that's not a great hit/miss ratio.

52's not really that much of an increase if you look at what they were putting out prior to the relaunch.  Looking back at March 2011 they had about 40 ongoings, plus Brightest Day and JL Generation Lost shipping 2 books each a month.  Plus a number of other limited series like DCU Online Legends, First Wave, Spirit, Doc Savage, Knight and Squire, and JLA the 99.  In fact, in both March of 2011 and May of 2012 DC had roughly 60 issues in the Top 300.  Now its just more ongoing series and less event books and limited series.
