I haven't read Conan, but I agree that Roy's dialogue left a lot to be desired.  One of the only titles where I thought his overwrought dialogue worked was Dr. Strange; I guess because Dr. Strange is sort of an inherently histrionic title in some ways.  I actually thought his work there was quite good, which is far more than I can say about much of his other work.
