DC's license to the those characters expired a year or so back. Plus, I believe their contract was to create new stories only, not for reprint material. Archie has launched a NEW CRUSADERS series digitally last month (print issues begin in August). They also have about 40-some back issues (40s, 60s, 80s) available online as well and growing each week.

Beyond that, Simon regained the copyright to The Fly and Lancelot Strong, so it's uncertain how much of those characters can be used or reprinted. Issues of "Mighty Crusaders" in which they appear have been posted, but none of "The Fly" or "Lancelot Strong" series themselves have been posted yet. In New Crusaders (as well as the recent DC license) they specifically used Fly-girl, rather than The Fly--since she was created after Simon and Archie owns her.

Well then somebody should lock all those buffoons inside a room and not let them out until they hammer out an agreement. I'd be pleased to do it myself but those upper management types always cross the street when they see me coming.

Incidentally, back in the mid-nineties I was running an occasional Showcase ad in CBG seeking to find high grade issues of the Adventures of the Fly. Believe it or not, but I received a letter from Joe Simon's lawyer saying that I should be crediting Joe Simon as opposed to Archie Comics as the owner of the Fly trademark. The shyster of course failed to mention that legal ownership at the time still accrued to Archie.
