For what it's worth I think DC made an error with the some of the shock moments in the #1s.  Now that we have more issues out it's easy to see that Catwoman and Red Hood won't have sex in most issues so the first issue gave a false impression.  Suicide Squad and Voodoo were other examples of this.  SS had long torture scenes while I think the only strip club scene for Voodoo was in the first issue.

Unless I'm mistaken the harder content has been restricted to the Batman, Dark and Edge(?) lines.  Superman, JLA and Teen are safe.
Great point -- I agree that DC shot itself in the foot pandering to the "horny teen" audience with the first issues of Red Hood and Voodoo.  I bet there are a bunch of folks who won't go near those books anymore, even though they have both gone in a different direction since.

In terms of the larger issue, it's not a bad thing that today's comics are written for an older audience.  But I still roll my eyes when the writer (usually Johns) has someone get ripped in half, lose an arm, etc.  Again it seems like pandering; I know it's "just" superhero comics, but writers should try to be a bit more sophisticated.
