A failure?  Hmmmm.  Best I can give you is a "maybe" leaning towards "failure."

I started out buying all the New 52.  After reading the #3 issues, I made some significant cuts to my subscriptions.  Thanks to pre-orders, I still read all the New 52 through the #6 issues.  Here's what I'm still reading (some of these are 'Second Wave" books):

• Action Comics
• All-Star Western
• Animal Man
• Batman
• Batman and Robin
• Batman Beyond Unlimited
• Batman: The Dark Knight
• Catwoman
• DC Universe Presents
• Demon Knights
• Detective Comics
• Frankenstein, Agent of Shade
• I, Vampire
• Justice League
• Justice League Dark
• Legion Lost
• Legion of Superheroes
• Resurrection Man
• Stormwatch
• Supergirl
• Superman
• Swamp Thing
• The Shade
• Night Force

I think most of the Justice League family of books are failures.  Maybe it's just me, but I don't see what all the fuss is about Wonder Woman (this coming from a big Azzarello fan).  I really don't like the Young Justice line, either.  I'm going to drop DCU Presents and just pick up the arcs that interest me.  Batman Beyond Unlimited is on shaky ground for me right now.  I wish Superman would settle into its reboot; I'm only buying the book out of my love for the character right now!  I like Grant Morrison's Action Comics when it goes cosmic, and not when we get a pseudo-99%-er Superman.  Justice League has been okay, but not great.  I'm probably one of the biggest Jonah Hex fans on the face of the planet, but All-Star Western is a dissappointment. Get Jonah out of Gotham City!  Palmiotti and Gray took a 180-degree turn with Jonah Hex with the New 52, IMHO.

On the positive side, I really do enjoy most of the Batman line (Batman and Robin is my favorite right now).  Animal Man and Swamp Thing are probably the best two books out of the New 52 in my opinion.  I still really enjoy Levitz's Legion of Super Heroes (wish I could say the same for Legion Lost).  Jeff Lemire's Frankenstein is not as strong as I'd like it to be ... I wish they'd drop S.H.A.D.E. and the Creature Commandos from the book. Justice League Dark, Demon Knights, and Stormwatch are improving.  The Shade and Night Force mini-series are some great reading, so far.

I've signed up for Batman Incorporated, Dial H, Earth Two, G. I. Combat, Worlds’ Finest, and National Comics: Eternity, but have not read the first issues yet.

Take this for what its worth coming from a 49-year-old who has been reading DCs since 1972, but the New 52 seems to have lost any of that lingering psuedo-Silver/Bronze Age vibe that seemed to be returning to the line post-Infinite Crisis/pre-New 52.  I can't put my finger on it.  Most of the New 52 is not very much fun to read.  Heck, maybe the New 52 are reading more like current Marvel comics ... maybe that's the problem!

My first comic books: Superboy and the Legion of Super Heroes #202 and Kamandi, the Last Boy on Earth #23.  What a great way to start!
