When the hell was the last time a main comic was written for kids 13+?  Try the early 1980s. The entire argument of "comics aren't written for kids" is tiresome.  A Wonder Woamn comic isn't written for kids?  Oh, give them one of the William Moulton Marston Wonder Woman comics.  'cause THAT one was written for your average 8 year old girl.  At least the average 8 year old girl that's into sadism and bondage.  Oh, FYI - the current Wonder Woman comic is not bad. Its no worse than Harry Potter or Hunger Games.
We sampled a number of the "T" rated books for our daughter whose almost 11.  The only one that we thought was age appropriate that she actually liked was JUSTICE LEAGUE.  She was highly interested in WONDER WOMAN, but gave that a pass after the first issue, which I wouldn't put in the same camp as Harry Potter or Hunger Games (although I've only recently skimmed the book and haven't seen the movie).  I do think with just a little editing, a number of books like WW, DETECTIVE, CATWOMAN and RED HOOD could have been made more accessible without losing much of anything.  I don't think the gore or sex factor contributes to sales at all.
