No, what really convinced me that the new DCU is a complete failure was last Saturday, Free Comic Book Day. I was in my LCS, getting my books, and this little girl, maybe 5 or 6, was wanting an issue of Wonder Woman. Her father went to check on it, and had to tell her no, that Wonder Woman wasn't a comic for children. Then the little girl started crying. Something is terribly wrong at DC when ANY of their flagship titles "aren't for children." That just really made me angry, and convinced more than ever that "The New 52" was one of the stupidest moves in comic book history. It's the comic book equivilant of "New Coke." I want my DCU Classic back!!!

It's hard to call the reboot of Wonder Woman a "complete failure" when the sales are still much, much, much better than they were for that title pre-Flashpoint.  However many 5-6 kids that were reading and enjoying pre-DCNU Wonder Woman, that loss in sales has been more than made up for by the increase in sales to other demographics.  Something they did with that title worked, and it's still working 9 months into the DCNU.

Average monthly sales for the main Wonder Women title Jan - April:
2009 - 32,770
2010 - 25,304
2011 - 32,549
2012 - 53,395

Sales of the WW title are up the first 4 months of this year by 64% over 2011, 111% over 2010, and 63% over 2009.

And in terms of the overall DCNU, they're still running close to Marvel 9 months into the relaunch without having to resort to any huge events.  And overall comic sales have risen since the relaunch, instead of continuing to decline.  Just those two points alone make it at least a moderate success.

And creatively, we've at least got stellar Superman, Aquaman, and Flash books.  It's been a long time since I would have said that for any of those characters.  It's a nice change to be excited about picking up core DC titles again and to be able to enjoy them as largely self-contained books.  Not to mention it brought us 8 awesome issues of OMAC and James Robinson writing the Shade and the JSA again.
