Kurtzman was arguably the best storyteller in comics history, a master of sequential art. But he apparently was one of those guys who looked down upon comics as a medium even though he excelled at the form. During his magazine years it's disappointing to see him largely abandon the the comics form and instead embrace illustrated text articles. Very few of his Mad (or Humbug) magazine articles tell a story. His Mad comic work is timeless in a way his magazine work is not.
