Somewhat disappointing issue. (Not that the previous X-Men stories have been very good...) The way Professor X handles Dominus feels almost like cheating. Those aliens sure didn't have Plan B, did they? I mean, you have this piece of very complex machinery, and it requires five robots to operate. If those robots go kaputt, the machinery is useless. Isn't that a bit careless? How did they manage to conquer all those other planets with this kind of contingency planning? And wouldn't it have been easier for our Mister X to tell his students why attacking Dominus directly is not a good idea instead of just telling them not to do it?

I get the feeling that Roy Thomas is still learning how to tell comic book stories. He really relies too much on WORDS, there's just an amazing amount of dialogue. Unnecessary dialogue. Dialogue that doesn't add anything of value. Look at this page, for example.

Art by Roth and Ayers is not very dazzling. I almost laughed when I saw these robots. Sorry.

OK, I don't want to give the impression that everything about this issue is hopeless. The sub-plot involving some local yokels was amusing. Still, X-Men is really behind most other Marvel comics at this point...
