[quote="dearlenbaugh"]It's been years since I've seen the episode, so I don't remember exactly which of the effete snobs was talking to him, but Rob says, "I write for TV." The fellow stares blanking for a moment, then replies in a Hah-vahd accent, "Oh. . . I don't own a television machine."

I always think of this when I run into one of the people Kam's talking about.

I have gone to great lengths over the years to keep those kind of people out of my life. There are certain things I simply can't abide, and condescension is one of them.

I'm reminded of a rather disappointing incident in my own life. There is a person I worked with for two years who I considered to be a friend who managed to land a position at Cambridge University. When he was my coworker, he was a really nice guy. Unfortunately, when I next ran into him at a conference about two years later, it was clear that ending up at Cambridge had gone to his head. He just oozed of "I work at one of the world's greatest schools and you don't" smugness.

He's faster than a bullet, stronger than a train
He's the one who got lucky, got his cape around miss Lois Lane
I can't believe my dilemma is real
I'm competing with the Man of Steel
