. . . frankly, the Lord of Time turned out to be pretty much of a wienie, as far as JLA foes go. Part of the problem was he was sandwiched between the main villains of the two-parter---Felix Faust and the Demons Three---and had to be dealt with readily.

The one thing I remember thinking when I first read “One Hour to Doomsday” fifty years ago (ye gods, has it been half a century? - INDEED!) was how unusual it was to have two totally different threats occurring in the same story, I don't recall realizing how lame Lord of Time really was.

This issue is one of those examples of how, as a youngster, getting a great, new comic book was a memorable event:

At this time I had a subscription to JLA. I had missed "The Cosmic Fun House" issue when it was on the stands, and I freaked out so bad, that I immediately sent away for the subscription so it would never happen again with my favorite title!

--- ASIDE #1: I had subscriptions to a few more comics at the time. Every day after school as I walked home from the bus stop, I'd look in the mailbox. Those days I opened the box and saw a comic folded up inside a brown sleeve. . . well, it was just like Christmas!

--- ASIDE #2: On school days I didn't go to the bathroom all day. At the middle school I attended there always seemed to be at least two tough guys hanging out in the restrooms, and it was easier for a geek like me to hold it in for eight hours than it was running the gantlet to take a dump.

So one day I came home from school and found Justice League #11 in the mailbox. I hurried into the house, dropped my books, ran to the bathroom, tore the wrapper off the comic and read it as I did my business.

That, my friends, is the definition of a satisfying experience!

I specifically remember spending quite a bit of time perusing the panel where the Time Lord is pulling his armies through the time barrier. It really enthralled me. Today, not so much, but looking at it now, I can still remember seeing it for the first time and thinking, "WOW!"

EDIT: Yikes! I just got out my JLA Archives to look at the panel again, and it was actually in the previous issue, "The Fantastic Fingers of Felix Faust." Doh!
