Kosh62 - Yeah. The first issue collaboration between Cockrum and Kane is beautiful. Easily the best single piece of work in the book. Frank Miller's contribution is also well-done but IMHO he isn't quite hitting his artistic stride yet.

Medival Guy - I totally agree with your point about Rudy Nebres. His style overwhelms the pencils. That said, you can clearly distinguish between the work of Gil Kane and Carmine Infantino. Their styles are hard to obscure but even they suffer a little from Nebres ethereal brush work.

Just a reminder to everyone in the states that Project Gutenberg has the first three John Carter novels available for free online. You can access them from most tablet e-readers too. It's fun stuff. A little predictable and repetitive but fun. The first novel stands on its own but the 2nd and 3rd form one story.
