It's been years since I've read it, but I do recall Peter David and Jae Lee on X-Factor being a very nice run. Starts around #71, I think.

How about Warren Ellis on Excalibur? Worth reading?

Yes! The art is extremely uneven (though Carlos Pacheco's stuff is pretty great), but Ellis brought a lot of fresh concepts and a new direction to the series, like he later did on his "Counter X" titles.

Peter David's first run on X-Factor (around #71-92 or so) is pretty good, especially if you like his Hulk work from the same period. Jae Lee, Larry Stroman, and Joe Quesada all did some good work on the title.

After these runs, I personally skip ahead to the Chris Bachalo- and Carlos Pacheco-illustrated issues of X-Men (though I didn't care for those stories myself), then the Alan Davis run, then the Counter X books - and congratulations, you've survived the '90s!
