Another new title announced by Mullaney, this time Percy Crosby's Skippy:

Created in 1923 in Life magazine, Skippy moved to the comics pages in 1925 and soon became a sensation, published in 28 countries and 14 languages. In 1931 it became the first comic strip to see its film version win an Academy Award. Crosby continued writing and drawing the feature until 1945.

The strip, sadly, is not well known today, but we see in Skippy the spiritual ancestor to Peanuts and Calvin and Hobbes, among many other kid strips.

Oh, good! I missed this news a month back, but was reminded of Skippy today - twice. First, because I was browsing the Best Picture Oscar nominees/winners, and second through reading some of Schulz' interviews in Charles M. Schulz: Conversations. So this is good news.

I'm also pleased that someone is - in theory, vanishing Amazon links taken not to be terrible news - finally getting to Mandrake the Magician.

Hopefully Alley Oop and Foster/Maxon/Hogarth/Manning (et al.) Tarzan aren't too far behind...
