They revived the Batman franchise in Dark Knight. I really, really hope they don't screw up Superman. Last Superman movie was kind of lame, if it flops again Superman as a brand (toys, comics, movies, cartoons, etc...) will really lose value, Green Lantern lost the big chance, well Warner/DC did.
You know, DC should take their cue from Marvel. When a movie franchise misfires, they simply start all over. That's what they did with the Hulk. They have expressed a desire to do the same thing with the Fantastic Four should the rights revert to Marvel.

BTW, Superman has endured for so long, any loss of value for Superman will be temporary. After all, the character just completed 10 successful seasons as a TV series, far longer than any of the previous live action TV incarnations. The Bryan Singer film was really just a bump in the road.

Could be, I love Superman so much, just the other day I bought All Star Superman in TPB, great stuff. But honestly although I doubt that Superman will ever dissapear the truth is that it's been many decades since he lost his status as the greatest or most popular Superhero, from the 40s, 50s and 60s he was the best seller in comic books, now his titles are usually in the middle spots. Last time he was the hottest thing in town was during the 70s (when relased Superman 1 and 2, real great movies). Anyways, Superman is still far from ever dissappearing.
