CONSEQUENCES, the second volume in the revived Levitz Legion series, begins with a welcome surprise -- the long-awaited reunion of Levitz and Giffen on the Legion.  "Here Eye Am" is a stand-alone story that originally ran as an Annual and re-introduces the Emerald Empress to Legion lore.  However, it's really Giffen's pencils here that are the real treat, which appear to be his best in years.  We also get a clever four-page Legion board game (and a two-page glossary), which re-clarifies the current state of Legion continuity, affirming that it's a direct extension from the previous Levitz run of the eighties.

From there, we dive into the main story, which follows two primary plot threads: the Durlan assassination plot mystery (from LOSH #7-10), and the search for the new Green Lantern (from Adventure #521-522), both of which continue sub-plots established in the previous volume.  However, like the Levitz run of old, the main plots are often not as intriguing as the sub-plots, and it's no different here as the election of a new Legion leader, a surprise injury to Dawnstar, possible intrusions by the Legion of Super-Villains, the continuing mystery of Professor Li, and the fall-out of Mon-El's relationship with Shadow Lass, all contribute to weave a richer and more intriguing canvas.

My only complaint with this volume is that the editors choose to group the Adventure and LOSH stories separately instead of interweaving them as they were originally published.  This creates continuity errors in the book that are somewhat confusing (i.e. Dawnstar is injured in one chapter, shown recovering in the medical ward in the next one, and then seen being rushed to the medical ward for the first time in the third after initially suffering her injuries, etc.)

But that's a minor grip in an otherwise excellent volume in the annals of the Legion.
