And the more I think about it, the more I think it's a massive mistake to have the various relaunch books scattered across time. This is NOT a unified universe. It's difficult to figure out how the books relate to each other. And if it confuses me, then it will probably confuse the living hell out of the "new readers" all this is supposedly designed to attract. E.g., I can recall off the top of my head three distinct Superman characters, two of whom are similar and the third (Action Comics) seeming to have little connection to the other two.

Sigh.
Well, to each his own, of course, but I'm not finding any of this even remotely confusing (and I'm not the brightest guy around)
Some books (like ACTION COMICS and JUSTICE LEAGUE) are set "5 years ago", at the very start of the DCnU. Everything else is set "today". What exactly is confusing about that?
So far, this is as unified as a universe can be!
I'm confident all these "new readers" you people keep talking about are not complete morons, so hopefully they'll "get" the unbelievably convoluted set-up.
In fact, I'm looking forward to Cornell's DEMON KNIGHTS, set in the Middle Ages (as I mentioned earlier, Cornell is clearly following Hickman's SHIELD, and trying to establish Stormwatch has always been there, protecting mankind throught history), as well as ALL-STAR WESTERN.
