Okay, I managed to read a few more.
I have to say I enjoyed ANIMAL MAN much more than SWAMP THING. I know a lot of people simply don't care for Travel Foreman's art, but I thought it gave the book that indie sort of vibe I still relate to early Vertigo. In contrast, I thought Yanick Paquette's work was too "clean", if you know what I mean. (Not that that's a bad thing, of course. In fact, I think more people here will probably prefer the Swampy book)
Also, I know I've been pimping Snyder's writing for the better part of last year, but Lemire's story (and characterizations) seemed to engage me more. I'm guessing those poor bastards at the end with their heads turned back 180 degrees were a slight nod to Alan Moore's Invunche (from the classic "American Gothic" saga). There were plenty of other nods, BTW.
BATGIRL wasn't bad, I guess, but I just found it dull. I still say it's a waste turning Babs into Batgirl. Her character seemed more unique as Oracle than yet another super-heroine. To be honest, I didn't see why this was better than Stephanie Brown's book.
OMAC was mindless fun, sure, but I enjoyed it. Then again, I've always liked Giffen. I know some people find his work unreadable.
I wholeheartedly agree that Tony Daniel's dialogue on DETECTIVE was embarrassing. That said, I liked this more than I thought I would.
