Yes, there is -- and as I said, I don't have an issue with working within that law, or (if the circumstances work out that way) the heirs of a creator reaping a benefit from it. When I said "That isn't how or why the law was devised," I meant that it wasn't specifically devised for the benefit of a copyright holder's decendents (as though they were some sort of special class), just that it sometimes works out that way.

The point I'm making is that in this case, I don't think Marvel should be under any obligation to offer a financial settlement to the family. It is, unfortunately, far too late to do right by doing that.
