By the standards that some people seem to be applying, if I buy something that eventually accrues substantially in value, it’s my “moral” obligation to go back to the original owner or their descendents and pony up more cash, or else I’m a “crook”.

Has anyone here bought a commission piece from an artist and then later resold it for a profit? If so, did you give the artist and/or their descendents a cut? If not, do you feel guilty for not doing so?
