I would take WB's claims about a sequel with a big grain of salt. Remember, they also said they were making a sequel to SUPERMAN RETURNS after that film opened (and it was much more successful than GREEN LANTERN.) They would never publicly abandon a franchise at the end of its second week in theaters. But in my opinion, another GL pic would defy all economic logic.

GREEN LANTERN's domestic box office is terrible relative to its cost, and it's underperforming overseas as well. Its box office take plummeted in its second week, indicating poor word of mouth. People aren't going to rush out to see a sequel if they feel burned by the first film. I realize it's a prized franchise for DC, but a direct sequel would be practically unheard of. At best I could see them rebooting it in a few years.
