Thanks, Gary.  Anything Doctor Who related is always good to see in my book.

I went to the Chicago Wizard Con in 2001, and the first big booth I saw by the entrance was the CrossGen booth.  I had heard of them, as a new comic publisher, but didn't know anything of their product.  As I was looking through what they had, I started talking to one of the guys there about what they were trying to do, with all their new comics being separate but being within the same universe and with the different Sigil bearers and all that.  I was interested, and he actually just gave me a small stack of comics for free, and I told him i would come back the next day and give him my opinion and possibly buy some more books.

When I got home, I made my way through all the days goodies, and actually liked what the CrossGen guy had given me, but I really liked this kind of sword and sorcery "Lord of the Rings with a hot chick" book called Sojourn (he had given me the newly published collected edition with the prequel and issue #1).  I had always been a big fan of the Conan and related books, and this one was right up my alley, and I really loved the artwork.

I went back the next morning and talked to the same guy again and told him how much I enjoyed the books, and went off to meet this artist Greg Land guy that I had never heard of before.  He was sitting there all alone, and I struck up a conversation with him about the Sojourn book, and he offered to make me a sketch if I wanted one.  So here is where I got my Arwyn sketch (the linework is very light pencil, so I really had to play with the contrast to get the scan to show up).

I also talked to him about his original art, and he seemed excited that someone would want his original art.  he even gave me his CrossGen business card with his phone number on the back (if I ever can find it again i will post it) in case I wanted him to do any commission work.  he said to give him a call anytime.

I laugh at that story now because the next time I saw him at a con a few years later, I stood in line 50 people deep and he told me that sketches would be $200.  LOL.  How things change with just a little bit of fame and recognition.  In any case, i am a fan of his art, and especially a fan of anything Sojourn or CrossGen, and I have picked up quite a few Sojourn pages over the years.  I have had to sell a good handful of them since, just to pay bills and fund other things, but I still have most of them.  I will post them as I scan them in, and post pics of the ones I have sold off.

And don't throw stones at me for liking his art.  Wink  I know he is almost universally hated here, but what can I say... I like what I like.  Emot_yes
