I caught a matinee of GL today.

Without getting into all of the minute details, my first overall impression was that this was a movie much more for comic book fans than for the general public. Maybe a movie that featured GL in a completely Earth bound adventure (SA style) could have had the potential to appeal to a wider audience, but the whole intergalactic GL Corps stuff seems very specifically aimed to folks like us (the minority).

I knew ahead of time that critics wouldn't "get it" no matter how good or bad it was, so their response didn't surprise me at all. This movie wasn't for them. I thought the script was somewhat weak, but the actors overcame it and produced a fun summer popcorn movie. I would recommend it to comic book fans, but not so much to general audiences.

I thought it was better than any of the Superman and Batman films to date. The first Superman would have been better if Luthor was taken seriously, but the comic portrayal killed it for me. The rest were throw aways. I still haven't seen a Batman film where I felt that they got the characters right. At least here, most of the characters are worthy cinematic counterparts to their comic book versions.

I look forward to a sequel that hopefully decides whether it wants to be Earth bound or space faring and stick to one. I would love to see a LOT more of the GL Corps characters introduced here and more next time.
