Yeah, won't get to see it until I get back home in a couple of weeks (although based on the reviews, I might just wait for DVD), but a 52M opening is dreadful and below the low-end of expectations. I don't think it has much to do with the property, though. There's only so much window dressing you can do for a bad movie, regardless of the genre it's in. There were two things that were abundantly clear from the trailers: the Ryan Reynolds comedic aspect (which I don't think anyone in the world is interested in by this point), and that it was going to be a hodge-podge of plot elements based on all of the different characters and settings that were previewed. Sounds like if you're a comic fan then it's far easier to digest, but there's no reason that a generally accessible Green Lantern film couldn't be made -- it's not that complicated of a concept. The only silver lining in this is that perhaps we'll finally be rid of Ryan Reynolds in these types of feature roles.
