Perhaps I missed something, but GL seemed to appear out of nowhere when Hammond first went berserk. There was no way I could see for Hal to know about it, other than the ring, but they didn't seem to make that very clear.

I agree. It was like there was a scene missing.

I was fine with this. The ring detects danger and leads him to it.

I saw GL last night, and I agree with a lot of the folks on this thread: it's very familiar and reminiscent of the first couple of Superman films. That didn't take away from my enjoyment of it, though. It's a bit simplistic and predictable, but as a kid's movie, it's terrific!

And let's face it: superhero movies need to appeal to a wide audience, but the most important audience they could have is the kids. How many films are there in theaters these days that are like the amazing/inspiring films of 1977-1982?

EDIT: If I had to nitpick, I would've preferred more of Hal's training, a bit less Hammond (it got kinda redundant), and a bigger/longer ending. But I loved everything I saw, so these are just nitpicks for me. I mean, the Big Bad villain looked incredible: I'd put that up with the best hide-behind-the-couch Doctor Who villains; it's gonna give some kids nightmares, and I think we need more of that in kids' films!
