As a historian, I often take umbrage at the Western fixation on D-Day as the preeminent campaign in World War II. Nevertheless, there is no questioning the courage and determination of those stouthearted American, British, Canadian and French troops who stormed ashore and assaulted the so-called Nazi Atlantic Wall. It was a masterful logistical undertaking that assured not only that France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg would remain free, but eventually Denmark, Norway, Austria and the majority of the German people as well.
My late father was a veteran of this war and I salute him and all those other members of the "Greatest Generation".
I feel like giving up the rat race and just becoming a handsome millionaire.
