All I know is I once made a radio documentary about the Battle of the Bulge, interviewing a group of US veterans.
None of them pretended to be John Wayne or that there was anything glorious or romantic about war.
All they wanted and prayed for was for their children to be able to live in peace and prosperity.
This came to pass.
We mustn't fritter it away.
However, the main problem lies in different approaches to maintaining peace.
Some, like Caesar, say the best way to maintain peace, is to prepare for war.
Others think violence and intolerance breeds more violence and intolerance.

I see a generation who thinks peace is a given and comes without a cost. They put their personal bank balance over collective freedom and security.

I have no intention of mitigating the sacrifices of all those who fought for the liberation of Europe.
The men who fought and died on the beaches of Normandy fought for a better world and we owe it to them to keep that dream alive.
