War is a difficult thing to discuss.
All wars, all battles are terrible, even those wars purportedly begun or entered into for just or noble causes.
War is the savaging of the weak, the helpless, all those (often of the working/starving classes) who can be bent to the aims of the warlords and the profiteers and the politicians of ALL nations.
World War II - like the wars which preceded and which have followed - brought immense suffering to tens of millions, death to tens of millions more.
I don't know how to regard any martial anniversary, including this one, except with the shudder that deejay's post invokes.
